Welcome to Lower School
YEARS 1 – 6
We are delighted to welcome you to the Lower School at Tower College, where we provide an exceptional educational experience for children from Year 1 to Year 6. Our focus is on nurturing young minds, fostering a love of learning, and preparing children for their future with a well-rounded education that includes academic excellence, personal growth, and social development.
Our Values
At Tower College, our core values guide everything we do.
Curriculum
Beginning in Year 1, pupils transition into our Lower School, where learning becomes more structured and covers a wide array of subjects, including English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, Art, PSHE, and RE. We place a strong emphasis on developing essential English and Maths skills while also dedicating substantial time to broadening pupils’ understanding of the world and their role within it.
A typical school day features English and Maths lessons in the morning, followed by topic-based lessons and activities in the afternoon. Pupils benefit from specialist instruction in Spanish, Music, and PE, with additional swimming lessons for Years 3-6 and specialist art lessons for Years 5-6.
While our curriculum aligns with the National Curriculum, it remains flexible to meet the unique needs and interests of our students. The absence of SATs allows us to respond more effectively to pupil needs, progressing at a pace that suits them rather than following a government-imposed testing schedule. This flexibility enables us to offer a diverse curriculum that is not solely focused on exam content. We adopt a creative curriculum approach, integrating various subject areas through engaging topics, immersing pupils in their learning, and delving into concepts in greater depth.
Our creative curriculum champions practical, hands-on teaching and learning, encouraging pupils to develop skills in investigation, problem-solving, and independent learning across all subject areas.
Stimulating Environment
At Tower College, we understand the importance of a rich learning environment. Our classrooms are equipped with a variety of resources and materials that cater to different learning styles and interests. Children are encouraged to explore, discover, and learn through play, which is essential for their cognitive and social development. Our outdoor classroom offers additional opportunities for children to connect with nature, engage in physical activities, and develop their motor skills.
Experienced and Dedicated Staff
Our team of highly qualified and experienced educators is dedicated to providing the best possible start for your child. They are passionate about early childhood education and committed to creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere where every child feels valued and supported. Through continuous observation and individualized attention, our teachers ensure that each child’s unique needs and abilities are recognized and nurtured.
We believe that a strong partnership between parents and educators is crucial for a child’s success. At Tower College, we maintain open and effective communication with parents, keeping you informed about your child’s progress and involving you in their learning journey. Regular updates, parent-teacher meetings, and various family engagement activities ensure that you are always a part of your child’s educational experience.
Preparing for the Future
Our EYFS program is not just about preparing children for school; it’s about preparing them for life. By instilling a love for learning, encouraging independence, and fostering resilience, we equip children with the skills and mindset they need to succeed in an ever-changing world. At Tower College, we are committed to providing a solid foundation that will support your child’s growth and development for years to come.

Children may not carry or self-administer over-the-counter or prescription medication unless Ms Gregory has authorised this. Pupils who require an inhaler or other emergency relief medication should ensure that they have this at all times and that an appropriate adult is aware that they have it. Any other medicines should be left at the main office.
We place great emphasis on learning beyond the classroom, utilising our excellent outdoor learning spaces and organising school trips both near and far. We encourage all children to broaden their horizons and participate in these enriching experiences whenever possible.
Our teachers arrange various trips, from geographical fieldwork to visits to space observatories, providing numerous opportunities for experiential learning across multiple fields.
Participation in school trips is contingent upon maintaining excellent behaviour, and pupils may be withdrawn if these standards are not met.
Additionally, we regret that we cannot accommodate pupils on school trips if school fees are in arrears.
Tower College partners with Thomas Franks to make lunchtime special for each child, catering to various special dietary requirements. Pupils who have health issues, allergies and intolerances are catered for, as are vegetarians and those who make religious nutritional choices.
We work with our parents, children, and Thomas Franks to provide a well-balanced diet that children of all ages will enjoy. Pupils and parents are regularly asked to complete questionnaires that provide feedback, suggestions, and ideas.
All dietary requirements are catered for, and pupils are not allowed to bring a packed lunch except in exceptional circumstances and with specific permission from the Principal.
Food is at the heart of what we do. We source with care and cook with passion, anticipating forthcoming culinary trends and supporting small and local producers and suppliers.
We believe in an innovative and seasonal approach to food, using fresh ingredients and cooking from scratch for all our clients daily.
The Safeguarding Team is always available to act in the best interests of the children at Tower College. Mrs Wright is our Designated Safeguarding Lead, and Ms Gregory and Miss Doughty are our Deputy Safeguarding Leads. (link to Safeguarding page)
Ms Gregory is Head of Compliance and Pupil Welfare and is available throughout the school day should your child have any issues or concerns they wish to raise/discuss.
