Journey’s End
As the end of the year draws to a close, we have been busily preparing the children for the next stage in their school journey. We have focussed on the children’s personal, social, and emotional development to ensure their happy transition. As the children move up, they will be joined by new starters from Tower Tots and other settings. To facilitate this, we had a lovely transition day where the new joiners spent the day getting to know the school and their new friends.
Inaugural Parent Workshop
With curriculums always being a work in progress and children gaining a deeper understanding from an early age, we realise the importance of working with parents. Children from Reception onwards often go home excitedly exclaiming that they can see ‘digraphs’ and ‘trigraphs’ in their reading books. Consequently, we thought it would be a good idea to invite parents to school to discuss what the children will be learning throughout the year, how they can support their child and how to provide opportunities and resources for children to use outside of school.
Our Early Intervention and Support Lead, Miss Porter, led an engaging and successful inaugural parent workshop on Early Literacy in EYFS. Parents commented that the workshop was ‘extremely insightful’. We know that this workshop will benefit children’s academic performance and bring children and parents together in their learning. A maths workshop is planned for September, and all the parents who attended the first workshop said they are definitely coming to the second one.

Reading Buddies
Year 1 pupils were delighted to be assigned leadership roles as ‘reading buddies’ to the Bluebird and Reception children. The interaction was inspiring, with wonderful conversations about reading. Undoubtedly, this had a significant impact on encouraging the children to become better readers and improve their comprehension skills.
Gruffalo Crumble
For me, the highlight of the term has to be Gruffalo Crumble Day, when James, Classroom Kitchen’s master chef, made a special guest appearance. After teaching the children how to peel, chop, weigh and mix their ingredients, James encouraged them to use their imaginations and create their own Gruffalo Crumble.

What Next?
The staff look forward to welcoming the new children into our learning environment and supporting parents by providing them with the necessary tools to facilitate their children’s learning outside school. We are confident that we can give the children the best possible chance of reaching their full potential as a team.
Wishing you a happy and restful summer break.
