Bluebird And Reception

This term in Early Years, we have been preparing the children for their final few weeks in their current classes before transitioning to next year’s group. The Bluebird children have been solidifying their Phonics and Maths knowledge, with some even learning to read simple words – which is very impressive when you’re still 3!

Reception focuses on the children’s handwriting and problem-solving of real-world issues, particularly friendships. The children’s hard work was celebrated with a recent visit to Farmer Ted’s. During this trip, Ms Bingley attended to support our EYFS children, commenting on how lovely and well-behaved they are!

Over the final half term, our department completed the topic ‘At the Seaside’. During this topic, the children spoke about their experiences, sharing photographs and objects during Circle Time sessions. The children were also taught the importance of caring for our beaches and seaside to help protect sea life.

The children finished the term with their graduation ceremony, celebrating their achievements this year and Sports Day, in which they showed their hard work, determination and sportsmanship throughout!

Well done, Bluebird and Reception. You have been a pleasure to teach this year, and we wish you luck in your new classes next year!

EXCITING NEWS!
From September, the Bluebird class will now be known as the ‘Pre-School class’!

Year 1

During this term, Year 1 has been working on becoming palaeontologists and learning about dinosaurs. Through various activities such as dinosaur teeth experiments and archaeological digs, they have covered a wide range of topics related to this fascinating subject. The homework projects this term have been exceptional, and the pupils have thoroughly enjoyed presenting their work to the class, which has helped them to develop their confidence and public speaking skills.

In addition to this, Year 1 has completed their Phase 5 phonics learning and demonstrated a solid understanding of digraphs. Their reading ability has improved tremendously, and it has been heartening to witness the pupils reading with their Year 5 buddies, taking the next step and having their Reception buddies listen to them read.

I have been thoroughly impressed with Year 1’s eagerness to learn to tell the time. They have thoroughly enjoyed playing games such as ‘What’s the Time, Mr Wolf’ and can now confidently tell the time to both O’clock and half past. Furthermore, the pupils learned about fractions and practised cutting objects into equal shares, which was educational and delicious.

The graduation assembly was a fantastic opportunity for Year 1 to showcase their musical ability, singing meaningful songs such as ‘The Climb’. It was a beautiful sight, and we all felt proud of their accomplishments. It has been an absolute pleasure teaching Year 1 this year, and I commend them for all their hard work. I hope they have a well-deserved rest this Summer!
